CM101
Closed Mold Boot Camp - One-Day Course
As process technologies, Light RTM, CCBM and VIP offer enormous potential for quality and productivity improvements over open molding or similar composite molding processes. However, the use of these technologies will remain below optimum potential to serve the industry unless you receive appropriate training on how to use them. This course provides a solid introduction to each process, including advantages and considerations of each. You will also get a brief overview of equipment basics presented by Magnum Venus Plastech.
CM201
Intermediate Closed Mold Training - Two-Day Course
Learn about the advanced tools of closed mold processes like LRTM, VIP, and CCBM, as well as discover the proper educational programs to aid you in your conversion to these time-saving, environmentally-friendly processes. Course topics will include cosmetics, economics, D’Arcy’s Law, open mold vs. closed mold, troubleshooting, training opportunities, materials and waxing. The two-day course will also include demonstrations of all three closed mold processes and an extensive overview of equipment and vacuum system packages presented by Magnum Venus Plastech.
Prerequisites: CM101 is recommended, or equivalent experience
CM202
Intermediate Closed Cavity Bag Molding - One-Day Course
Closed Cavity Bag Molding (CCBM) is an easy way to begin your closed mold conversion. This class will focus specifically on Closed Cavity Bag Molding. It will include demonstrations on building a silicone bag using the brush method. It will also explore other methods like the spray bag. In addition, students will receive instruction on economics, process efficiencies and D’Arcy’s Law. An equipment and vacuum system overview will also be presented by Magnum Venus Plastech. You will leave this class with an understanding of how CCBM might fit into your closed mold development plans.
Prerequisites: CM101 is recommended, or equivalent experience
CM203
Intermediate Light Resin Transfer Molding - One-Day Course
Light Resin Transfer Molding (LRTM) is a versatile process that is perfect for a variety of parts. This class will showcase the advantages that Light RTM has to offer those considering converting to closed mold. The discussion will center on a dynamic demonstration of advanced troubleshooting techniques using a glass table that will allow those in attendance to view the resin flow live. There will also be a general process and theory overview, a waxing introduction, a discussion of the economics of LRTM and best practices, and a discussion of B-side cosmetics. A section on the master plug and pattern will also be taught. In addition, Magnum Venus Plastech will present an informative presentation on the equipment and vacuum systems and accessories needed for a successful LRTM shop.
Prerequisites: CM101 is recommended, or equivalent experience
CM204
Intermediate Vacuum Infusion Process - One-Day Course
Learn and understand advanced techniques of vacuum infusion. This process is ideal for low-volume production and offers low start-up costs. Topics covered include flow design, speed lamination test demonstration, hollow parts, D’Arcy’s Law and theory, laminate schedule and basic materials needed. Students will also see a vacuum infusion demonstration. Magnum Venus Plastech will present the equipment and vacuum systems and accessories that will make a conversion to VIP successful.
Prerequisites: CM101 is recommended, or equivalent experience
CM205
FormaShape Lean Simulation - One-Day Course
This workshop allows participants to experience traditional and Lean Manufacturing concepts firsthand. Participants re-create the dynamics of a factory and use continuous improvement techniques to increase quality and productivity to meet customer demand using single piece flow.
Prerequisites: None
CM301
CCP Tooling 101 - Two-Day Course
Learn how to make a state-of-the-art mold. Topics include mold cosmetics, material selections, proper applications, and tooling gel and barrier coats. In addition, you will learn about skin and laminating resins, mold bracing and framing, and mold maintenance and repair. You will learn what methods and materials are right for your specific tooling needs. As part of this class Magnum Venus Plastech will offer the opportunity to learn about the equipment and accessories needed for making your own tools.
Prerequisites: None
CM302
Advanced Light RTM Tooling by RTM North - Five-Day Course
Taught by Doug Smith, President of RTM North, this hands-on tooling training is the best way to to help you make your tooling decision. Students should take this class if they plan on building their own tooling for processes like LRTM. Topics of discussion include advanced waxing techniques, B-side tooling, master pattern and plug, and design for process. Other topics include costing tools and parts, resin systems and reinforcements, as well as laminates. Magnum Venus Plastech will be on hand to discuss equipment and vacuum system needs. This is a “must have” for all those converting to closed mold who hope to build their own tooling.
Prerequisites: CM203 is recommended, or equivalent experience
CM303
Advanced Waxing Techniques - Three-Day Course
This course is designed for students who want to learn how to wax for LRTM. Recognized leaders in the LRTM industry teach the course. In the Waxing Workshop you will learn the purpose and theory of waxing, flange design and details, fitting and vacuum line layout, and get hands-on experience waxing. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of training.
Prerequisites: None
CM304
Advanced Closed Cavity Bag Molding - Two-Day Course
Are you ready to build a part using closed cavity bag molding? This class will help get you started. You will receive hands-on training as you make your own silicone bag using time-proven methods. You will also receive hands-on training in clamping techniques and multi-injection ports. Common troubleshooting issues will be explored during this course. In addition, you will learn about the materials needed to be a successful CCBM fabricator and Magnum Venus Plastech will elaborate on the equipment and vacuum systems needed to be a success.
